The Last Viking King

Magnus Barelegs — The Last Viking King

In the early 12th century, a Norwegian king ruled unlike any before him.

Magnus III of Norway — later known as Magnus Barelegs or Barefoot — was a warrior, a seafarer, and a ruler who looked westward when others looked inward. He sailed beyond the known borders of his kingdom, forging alliances and conflicts across the North Atlantic, from Scotland to Ireland and the Isle of Man.

His name came not from legend, but from reality:
he adopted Gaelic dress, rejected heavy armor, and ruled close to the land and the people he encountered.

Yet despite his impact, Magnus Barelegs remains one of the most overlooked Viking kings in history. Because he truly was the last real Viking King.

In this film I explore the life, campaigns, and legacy of Magnus Barelegs — not as myth, but as man. Through landscapes, historical sources, AI-reconstruction, and modern exploration, the story follows the thin line between power and ambition, tradition and change, and the moment when the Viking Age met the medieval world. Of course it is gonna be intertvined with my style of storytelling. So, expect some "viking bushcraft" and some cool automobiles.

A story of movement, identity, and the cost of leadership.
